Outdoor furniture information
What is Teak you ask?
Well, teak is a closed grained hardwood with a high natural oil content. This makes it hard wearing, highly resistant to rotting and almost impervious to the effects of sun, rain, frost or snow. These characteristics combine to make it the ideal timber for all outdoor applications. Many other hardwoods are used for outdoor furniture and some are even marketed as ‘teak substitutes’. However, there is no substitute for teak and no other hardwood will perform to the same standard as teak in outdoor conditions.
Your
teak furniture can be kept outside all year around. Of
course, any furniture left outside all year will get more dirty then
furniture that is just used in the summer, but the long-term
performance and durability of the furniture is exactly the same. We
suggest that you store your furniture over the winter in a garden
shed, garage or outhouse. Please do not move your teak furniture
from the garden straight into a heated indoor room for storage, as
the sharp differences in temperature and humidity may cause the wood
split.
Inside furniture can get a new look
Redecorating a
fireplace mantel is a quick, easy way to give a room a new
look without having to buy new furniture. Think of it as a blank
canvas begging for paint. To fashion a striking arrangement, you
can use a number of unique accessories. As you choose items,
remember that big and bold is best! Small, timid items get lost
on a mantel, so use pieces such as large pictures, long,
delicate sticks, oversized candles, giant flowers or bouquets.
If you don't have a mantel, hang a shelf; place a fireplace
screen below and pretend. Here are some tips for creating
magnificent mantels:
Collect sticks from your yard, three to four feet in length.
Strip them of all small branches and leaves and place them in a
tall, narrow vase. They create a perfect background for fresh
flowers and ivy, or use them au natural to add drama.
Stone garden finials, urns and iron gates add texture and
interest when placed on a mantel. Don't change or clean the
original finishes on an antique piece. Moss , rust, tarnish,
etc., create a patina that adds to the piece's value.
Blend antique and contemporary accessories to develop mantel
groupings. Choose items with similar finishes or colors to tie
them together.
To create a formal, symmetrical display on your mantel, place a
candlestick at each end and a floral arrangement (two to three
times taller than the candles) in the center.
