How
to locate the right office chair for you
To check for a proper fit:
When you are sitting, ensuring that your feet can rest
comfortable, and firmly on the ground while your thighs remain
level on the seat.
The seat cushion should be rounded in front to avoid restricting
circulation
below your knees. The cushion, or seat pan, should be
comfortable. Your weight should be evenly distributed. You
should not feel as if you are sitting on one hip or another.
The backrest should also feel comfortable. A contoured backrest
will often provide you with greater lumbar support.
Check the number of seat positions, which can be accommodated
comfortably.
If the person who is using the chair tends to leans back, this
should not cause any neck tension.
A forward tilt chair will ensure good posture when you lean
forward. A forward tilt chair will place your hips a few degrees
higher than your knees.
If armrests are available, they should be designed for the chair
to be pulled
close to a computer keyboard or desk surface, they should not
hinder you.
A word about chair casters:
Check to see where the office chair is going to be located. There are different types of chair casters
depending on the floor surface. While hard wheel casters are
appropriate for a carpeted office, soft wheel casters are
preferable for other floor materials to avoid damage.
